In climbing, “on belay” means someone’s got you. You’re tied in and someone else is securing the other end of the rope. You’re safe to move, take risk and climb because someone is watching your back and will catch you if you fall.
At Belay, we’ve taken that picture and made it the heartbeat of our church. “Being On Belay” is a way of life. It’s our reminder that our Christian faith is alive in everyday rhythms. It’s not just what we believe — it's how we live.
BELAY is also an acrostic that guides us into missional habits:
Bless Others
Eat with Others
Learn Jesus
Ask Questions
You on Mission
Let’s lean into these habits together this summer.
— Paul
There’s power in simple acts of kindness. Here are a few ways to bless your neighbors this summer:
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
Jesus spent a lot of time at the table. Meals break walls. Hospitality opens hearts.
Here are some simple ways to share a table:
“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” — Romans 12:13
To follow Jesus, we’ve got to know his story. Read the Gospels. Slow down in prayer. Listen to teaching that points you to Him. Here’s a few more Ideas:
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” — Matthew 11:29
Jesus often started with a question. “What do you want me to do for you?” “Who do people say I am?” Questions invite relationship. Let’s grow curious:
“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak…” — James 1:19
This isn’t a checklist. It’s a way of life. When you bless, eat, learn, ask — you’re living missionally. That’s what it means to be “On Belay.”
Mission is Monday through Saturday. It’s at the grocery store, in the carpool lane, at the fire pit with neighbors.
God’s already where you are. Let’s join Him there.
“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” — John 20:21
This summer, let’s not coast. Let’s live with intention. Choose a couple habits from ON BELAY to lean into in June. Then choose a couple more in July. By the time August rolls around, you’ll have a few new rhythms under your belt — and some stories to share.
We’re in this together. If you ever feel stuck, need prayer, or want someone to talk through this stuff with — reach out. You’re not alone.
Let’s stay “On Belay.”
— Paul
